Remember when we could travel? Nope, us either.

Travel has long been one of our favourite past-times, but when you throw a global pandemic in the mix, that past-time quickly goes on a year-long hiatus and has us craving to get out and about in a very big way.

So, if you could go anywhere where would you go?

We asked Gigi from @_itsbeautifulhere, our go-to for all things travel, to take us deskside dreaming for a little WFH escape.

(Gigi in Nico)

Gigi, who is well known for her travel guides and for finding beauty in every chaotic and crazy moment travel throws at you, uses travel as a way of connecting with new and interesting people from all walks of life.

These are her tips for the best places to travel in Australia (aka: within our border restrictions).

Beautiful islands, beats, and BITS that match.

In these strange and wonky COVID times where travel is limited to Australia only (which suits me) - I have been drumming up a list of some of my most favourite islands for equal parts kicking back in the sun and getting active. Below, a list of my favourites - with the bits and beats I think match best.

Lord Howe Island, New South Wales
One of the most extraordinary places I have ever visited. For such a tiny island it has it all - surf, snorkelling, reef, fishing, bike riding, hiking, bowling, golf - the works.

Stay: Capella Lodge
Listen: Exodus, Bob Marley
Bits:Floral bits are the go here

Kangaroo Island, South Australia
A true nature paradise, especially needing some love post the horrific fires of last summer. Quiet, calm, wild, rugged, natural beauty.

Stay: One Kangaroo Island
Listen: My My, Hey Hey, Neil Young
Bits: Go nude, or the next best thing

Stradbroke Island, Queensland
Nature, nature, nature. Waves. Slow days. Sunset beers at the Point Lookout surf club. Great for a holiday with mates.

Stay: Airbnb – Boolarong
Listen: Cold Blooded Old Times, Bill Callahan
Bits: Tie-dye vibes

Rottnest Island, Western Australia
Spectacular (like, outrageously beautiful) beaches, bike paths, and quokkas! Great for the fam bam.

Stay: Samphire Rottnest
Listen: Kids Fallin In Love, Dope Lemon
Bits: Outrageously beautiful

Orpheus Island, Queensland
Orpheus Island, a super luxe and ultra-romantico destination. Definitely one for you and your lover.

Stay: Orpheus Island Lodge
Listen: Pretty Pimpin, Kurt Vile
Bits: Fun, beachy, romantic bits

Satellite Island, Tasmania
One of the most extraordinary accommodation experiences in Australia. My tip - sleep in the jetty house with the roller doors open all night. Magic!

Stay:Satellite Island
Listen:You And Me, Penny & The Quarters
Bits: Private ones
